Joakim Flinck fired a season-best of 2-under 70 on Monday to take second place in the ninth WSC men’s golf tournament at Olivas Links in Ventura.
Canyons won the team title with a 2-over 362, beating Glendale by six strokes. Ventura took third at 371 and SBCC was fourth at 379.
Brett Patton shot 73 for Santa Barbara and Manny Manzone turned in a 76. Will Mullins of Canyons was the medalist at 69.
“We shot 10 or 12 strokes better in a practice round at Olivas last Wednesday,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. On March 16, the Vaqueros recorded their best score of the year, a 3-under 357, to win the Southern Cal Preview at Olivas Links.
“We lost a lot of strokes on the back nine and it wasn’t a great day for us,” Melendez added. “Joe has been playing well, shooting under par in two of his last three rounds.”
The Vaqueros will play in the WSC Championships (WSC No. 10 and 11) on Monday. It’s a 36-hole event at Rancho Vista GC in Palmdale.
Canyons (60-3) and SBCC (52-11) have already clinched berths in the Southern Cal Regional, which will also be played at Olivas Links. The third team from the WSC will be determined by who has the best score besides Canyons and SBCC in the WSC Championships.
