Matthew Eaton can score big on the basketball court and in the classroom.
The Providence School senior was honored Monday as the school’s Scholar-Athlete of Year at the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon.
On the court, Eaton was the Patriots’ leading scorer during his freshman, junior and senior years. This season, he set the school’s single-game scoring record with a 36-point performance. He was the captain for coach Steve Stokes’ squad.
In academics, Eaton has an impressive GPA of 4.75. His class load includes Advanced Placement chemistry, English Literature, Spanish, economics. His classroom work has put him on the head of school list every year at Providence.
The son of Tim and Nancy Eaton, Matthew is the senior class president at Providence. His community service work includes Santa Barbara Rescue Mission, Habitat for Humanity and tutoring at the Boys & Girls Club.
He said he’d like to pursue a career in sports management. He has been accepted at four colleges: Biola, Westmont, Wheaton (Ill.) and George Fox (Ore.).
