Santa Barbara High swept San Marcos and Dos Pueblos in Interscholastic Beach Volleyball League matches on Saturday at West Beach to remain undefeated in AAU competition.

Santa Barbara’s No. 1 team of Cassandra Amador and Tatum Vedder swept their San Marcos opponents 2-0 with game scores of 21-9, 21-14.

“Vedder played great defense while Amador was able to keep the Royals off balance with a variety of agile shots and hits,” said coach John Gannon. The team also prevailed against Dos Pueblos, using their experience and guile.

The Dons’ No. 2 team of Linnea Skinner and Erika Foreman used their youth and energy to sweep the Royals. “Skinner was attacking with precision while Foreman focused on her steady ball control. Against Dos Pueblos they were able to finish off the match with gritty defense and great transition plays,” said Gannon.

At No. 3, Ally Drevo and Zoe Maritorena “played great team volleyball and served exceptionally tough to earn their sweep against San Marcos,” said Gannon. Against DP, the Chargers took the first set before Drevo and Maritorena dug in and won the second set, forcing a deciding third set. The Santa Barbara duo was able to serve tough into the wind and gain a comfortable cushion, before finally closing out the match.

The Dons lead the IBVL Riviera Division with a record of 6-0, and are 8-0 overall in AAU competition. They are also ranked third overall in Southern California Interscholastic Beach Volleyball League rankings.
