Santa Barbara High football player Russell Enholm will play at the next level at the University of San Diego, Dons coach J.T. Stone announced Wednesday.
Enholm was an All-Channel League first-team selection and a Presidio Sports All-City Football Team honoree. The defensive back led the Dons with four interceptions and 15 pass breakups, made 42 tackles and blocked a punt.
“I am extremely happy for Russ and his family,” Stone said. “ At 6-2, Russ has tremendous upside and is a great fit for USD. USD plans to bring him in as a DB but there is a chance he could transition to free safety. I believe his two years playing DB will make the transition to free safety easy.”
Stone added that Enholm’s competitive spirit rubbed off on his teammates and coaches.
“Russ has the ability to change the tempo of a game by making big plays and he did that on Friday nights,” said Stone.
USD is coached by Dale Lindsey. Last season, the Toreros posted a 9-3 record, won the Pioneer Football League championship and advanced to the NCAA Division I FCS playoffs for the first time in school history.
