Connor McManigal snapped an 8-8 tie with a two-run double in the 10th inning on Friday and SBCC went on to defeat Reedley 11-8 in a nonconference baseball game at Bakersfield College.
The Vaqueros (22-6) built a 7-4 lead after five innings and scored a run in the ninth for an 8-6 advantage. The Tigers (10-17) rallied for two in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings.
It was the fourth straight win for No. 5 Santa Barbara and the 10th in 11 outings. The Vaqueros went 3-0 on the road this week and have won six in a row away from home. They’re 3-0 in extra-inning games this year.
Brandon Evans went 5-6 with a double and two RBIs. McManigal, a sophomore left fielder from Santa Barbara High, was 2-5 and threw out a runner at the plate in the seventh.
The Tigers jumped ahead 3-0 in the first against starter Justin Bruce, who only lasted 1 2/3 innings. The Vaqueros scored four in the second to take the lead Reedley tied it with a run in the second but the Vaqueros went ahead 7-4 with a run in the third and two more in the fourth on RBI singles by Matt Henderson and Evans.
Zachary Daniels replaced Bruce in the second inning and pitched five scoreless innings. Davis Messer got his first win with 1 1/3 innings of relief. Four Vaquero pitchers gave up a season-high 20 hits.
Reedley, a Northern Cal team from the Central Valley Conference, committed seven errors leading to four unearned runs.
The Vaqueros return to WSC North play on Tuesday at Cuesta, starting at 2:30 p.m.
