Arroyo Grande forced the Dos Pueblos boys volleyball team to dig deep in the first set with a strong defensive effort. But once it fell to the Chargers, Dos Pueblos shut them down on both sides of the ball with a straight set sweep at home on Thursday. The scores were 25-22, 25-13, 25-16.
Setter Mark Raphael spread the ball around the entire court, feeding Eli Wopat for 11 kills, Elliott Brainerd for 10, and Jack Burns and CD Sullivan for five apiece.
Tyler Fletcher had an impressive performance hammering four kills on four attempts along with two blocks. Coach Ehren Hug credit the contributions of Fletcher saying: “In just his second year playing volleyball Tyler has improved a ton. He never complains at practice abut his playing time but puts his head down, grinds and does his very best. Tonight Tyler shined and as a coach you love to see a player have a great match and hear his teammates hooting and hollering for him with every positive play that he contributes to the effort.”
The Chargers looked solid on the defensive front as well as at the net. The Chargers improve to 4-3 in league, 11-6 overall with the victory and will open against Laguna Beach at the Redondo Union Varsity Classic Tournament on Friday.
