Cate put itself in position to finish in first place in its first year playing boys volleyball in the Tri-Valley League. The Rams swept Nordhoff, 25-23, 25-20, 25-20, to improve to 8-3 in league with one match remaining.
“It was a good turnaround for the season,” Cate coach Greg Novak said. “We started with three straight losses in five games (including Nordhoff). It was nice to beat those teams that beat us in five.”
Another one of those teams is Fillmore, whom the Rams (8-4 8-3 in TVL) play in their regular season finale on Thursday at home.
James Scovall was a force at the net against Nordhoff, blocking five attacks. Oliver Welch and Morgan Pierce combinedfor 26 kills to pace the Cate attack.
