Carpinteria got strong play from its doubles teams and defeated Pacifica, 12-6, in a non-league match.
“We just played great in both singles and doubles and kept mentally focused throughout the three rounds,” a pleased Carpinteria coach Charles Bryant said. “I was really impressed with our doubles as each set was extremely close. In the first round, each of our doubles teams won their set 7-5. That pattern seemed to continue through the next two rounds as every set was a nail-biter.”
The Warriors’ No.2 team of Jacob Ascencio/Sam Truax swept their three sets (7-5, 7-5 and 6-3), while No. 1 Sammy Gutierrez/Raymond Cuellar won their two sets 75 and 6-4 while dropping a 6-4 set. Juan Hernandez/Francis Aguilera also won two sets.
In singles, No. 2 Jeremy Saito and No. 3 Bryan Taira won two out of three sets. Jonathan Cleek played also played well, winning one of his three sets.
“I thought he played relaxed and confident as he was close to winning all three sets,” said Bryan tof Cleek. “Overall, it was just a great match with solid doubles play and good patience in singles play.”
