Carpinteria was defeated by Laguna Blanca 13-5 during a non-league tennis match on Thursday afternoon.
“Overall, I think we played well against a stronger team,” said Warriors head coach Charles Bryant. “Hopefully we will keep improving and learn from the tougher competition.”
Carpinteria’s No. 2 doubles team of Jacob Ascencio and Sam Truax had a very strong outing while winning two of three sets. The pair’s only set loss came after surrendering a 5-1 advantage en route to a 7-5 defeat. The duo of Sammy Gutierrez matched with Raymond Cuellar defeated the Owls No. 3 team.
“Our number two team has been doing a great job of thinking out there and adjusting if things are not in their favor,” added coach Bryant. “Also, Sammy Gutierrez has been really moving and playing well lately.”
In singles play, Jonathan Cleek claimed a 6-3 victory over Laguna’s No. 2 player. Jeremy Saito went 1-2 on the day for the Warriors.
With the loss, Carpinteria falls to 6-6 overall, 1-2 in league.
