SBCC spotted Bakersfield a couple of points and still came away with a 7-2 victory on Thursday in a women’s tennis match at Bakersfield.
It was the ninth straight win for the Vaqueros (9-2, 8-1), who stayed in a first-place tie with Glendale atop the WSC with one huge match remaining.
The Vaqueros were down a player on Thursday and had to forfeit No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.
SBCC won the other seven matches in convincing fashion as Tess Kolkman, Zionne Lee and Amanda Berke posted 6-0, 6-0 sweeps at Nos. 2, 3 and 4. Marcela Massaglia had an easy time at No. 1 (6-0, 6-4) and Gabriela McDaniel dropped just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 5.
Kolkman, a freshman from Holland, is perfect this year with a 9-0 singles record and an 8-0 doubles mark. She and Lee took the No. 1 doubles on Thursday, 8-1. Lee is 8-1 in singles and 7-1 in doubles.
Glendale comes to Santa Barbara on Tuesday for a first-place showdown in the final conference match, starting at 2 p.m.
