Sophomore Ryan Fidel of Dos Pueblos placed second in his weight class in two divisions at the CAUSA Folkstyle State Tournament at Selland Arena in Fresno over the weekend.
Wrestling in the 106-pound sophomore division, Fidel beat Orlando Salcedo of Santiago by fall in the quarterfinal match and won his semifinal 7-2 against Rajanvir Chalhal of Livingston.Fidel lost to Oscar Nellis of Carlsbad in the final.
On Sunday, Fidel earned runner-up honors in the junior-senior 106 division. He beat Matt Fischer of Ripon, advancing to a quarterfinal berth, where he edged out junior Thomas Diaz of Visalia, 2-1. In the semi finals, Fidel pinned junior Jacob Maestas of Pacifica to earn a trip to his second finals match. He lost to junior Joey Dorsey of Rim of the World. .
Also placing at this event was DP freshman Erick Nisich, who took sixth in the 220-pound division.
