For the second time this season, Westmont freshman Lauren McCoy has been named the Golden State Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. The six-foot forward from Arcata averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds per game last week as the #15 Warriors (24-5, 11-5 GSAC) finished the GSAC season on a seven-game winning streak.
In Westmont’s 83-52 win over Hope International (16-13, 7-8), McCoy tallied 25 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. She also contributed two assists and two steals.
Against Biola (16-14, 8-8) on Saturday, McCoy notched 13 points and eight rebounds, helping the Warriors win by a score of 68-67.
This week, McCoy and the Warriors begin play in the postseason as the number three seed in the GSAC Tournament. Westmont will host sixth-seeded Hope International on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
The semifinals will be played on Friday night at a location to be determined with the championship game taking place on Tuesday, March 10. At stake is the conference’s automatic berth in the NAIA National Tournament, which goes to the GSAC Tournament champion.
The championship game will be televised live on Fox College Sports and Fox Sports Prime Ticket. Tip-off is scheduled for five o’clock.
