The Santa Barbara Easter Relays showed that the future is bright for local track and field.
Underclassmen cleaned up at Saturday’s meet at La Playa Stadium.
The San Marcos frosh/soph girls won five relay events and finished second in another. Santa Barbara junior Natasha Feshbach captured the girls varsity long jump at 17-4 and took third in the 100 hurdles in 15.58. Dos Pueblos junior Sofia Janotti was third in the varsity long jump (16-3.25) and triple jump (33-2).
In the boys varsity 1500, DP sophomore Hunter Clark stepped up and earned first place in 4:09.16. In a tight boys 110 high hurdles race, San Marcos junior Kele Mkpado took third in 15.98. Shane Stach of Canyon Country took first place in 15.94 and Alex Galland of Liberty of the Central Section was second in 15.95.
In the varsity boys 100, Bishop Diego junior AV Bennett placed a respectable fifth in 11.36.
Dos Pueblos sophomores turned in some good performances: Spencer Kemmerer won the JV high jump at 6 feet; Nate Stull placed third and set a PR in the shot put at 44-0; Chris Jones acheieved a 10-inch PR in the high jump at 5-10.
For the DP girls, Minna Wyttenbach jump 32-0 in the JV triple jump and Samantha Mendez took third in the high jump; Alana Ochoa set a PR in the varsity discus.
Adilene Aldapa of San Marcos shined for the seniors. The San Jose State-bound distance runner started the day with a comfortable victory in the 3000 meters. She won in 10:30.24. Carpinteria sophomore Mikela Keefer was fourth in 10:53.72.
