Erica Schroeder and Adilene Aldapa of San Marcos posted the two fastest 1600-meter times in CIF-SS Division 3 at Saturday’s Royals Track Classic at Warkentin Stadium.
Schroeder, a sophomore, won the race in 4:56.81, the fourth fastest time in the state. Aldapa, a senior who signed with San Jose State, was clocked in 5:04.45, 18th in the state.
Senior Matt Turk of San Marcos cleared 15-6 in the pole vault, the second-best mark in the division and sixth best in the state.
Cameron Shinn captured the triple jump at 41-08 and Kele Mkpado took the 110 hurdles in 16.04. San Marcos teammate Taylor Alexander Pierce Taylor was second in 16.64. In the 200, Tyson Miller (23.49) finished behind Lompoc’s Austin Hayes (23.37).
The boys frosh/soph 100 was one of the closest races of the day. Sophomore Matthew Hempy of San Marcos edged out Carpinteria freshman Wyatt Stevenson, 12.13 to 12.14.
On the girls side, San Marcos junior Devon Block-Funkhouser won the 300 hurdles (46.28) and took second in the 100 hurdles (16.77).
Freshman Jennifer Nnoli finished second in the varsity 100 in 12.98. Santa Ynez senior Jackie Chandler won the race in 12.74. Courtney Clyde was runner-up in the long jump (16-05) and triple jump (34-03.25).
Buena high jumper Erinn Beattie cleared 5-6, one of the top early season marks in the state.
From Carpinteria, Gabriel Zapien-Ybarra took second in the boys shot put (43-05.50) and third in the discus (138-05.50).
