The San Marcos girls track and field team defeated Ventura 81-46 during a Channel League meet on Thursday afternoon. The Royals’ boys team suffered an 85-41 setback at the hands of the Cougars.
“Today our girls had a great team effort to beat a very good Ventura team,” said San Marcos head coach Marilyn Hantgin. “Sweeping the 100 hurdles was also a big boost for our team.”
The Royals were led by Courtney Clyde, who won three events on the day. She claimed victories in the long jump (3-7.5), triple jump (15-9), and high jump (5-00). Jen Nnoli won both the 100 (12.44) and 200 (25.79) while Adilene Aldapa came up victorious in the 1600 and 3200. Erica Schroeder won the 800 in 2:14.
The girls won the 4×100 (49.69) and the 4×400 relays (4:00.16).
On the boys side, Cameron Shinn led the Royals with a win in the triple with a personal best 43-2.25. This places him among top five in CIF Division 3. Tyson Miller won the 400 (51.45) and 200 (23.10). Walker Odell was second in the 800 with a personal best time of 1:58.97.
“I am extremely proud of our boys team and how they competed against a very tough Ventura squad,” concluded coach Hantgin.
