Bishop Diego ends the season with a 24-9 record, a CIF-SS Division 5 title — the program’s first title since 1978 — and its first state tournament victory.
Bishop Diego trailed 11-8 midway through the first quarter. Lilly had six points for the Cardinals.
At the end of the first quarter, The Bishops School led 22-18.
The Bishops expanded its lead to 33-20 with three minutes to go in the first half. Hannah Rogers had 12 points for Bishop Diego.
Bishop Diego trailed 39-24 at halftime.
“They were a tough, quick, physical team,” Bishop Diego coach Jeff Burich said. “The press was something we hadn’t seen in a long time. Jordyn was pretty much double teamed almost every time she had the ball. We never really got to run our offense. They forced us to run a hurry-up tempo. When we broke the press, we were able to get some easy baskets and some good looks. When we didn’t break the press, we were turning the ball over and they got a lot of steals and got layups out of them.”
The Bishops School opened up a 58-31 lead going into the fourth quarter
Cardinals were down 63-40 with four minutes to play and cut the deficit to 15 points before The Bishops pulled away.
“On a positive note, I thought defensively we played really well,” Burich said. “Jordyn held their leading scorer, who averages 35 points game, to 15. She made only three field goals in the game.”
