Aliyah Huerta-Leipner homered and went 3-for-3, and pitcher Hailee Rios struck out 12 in five innings, leading San Marcos to a 4-2 softball win over Santa Maria at the Santa Ynez tournament on Saturday.
The game was shortened to five innings by tournament time rule.
Rios also contributed at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored. Huerta-Leipner scored runs. Caitlin Tucker went 3-for-3 and Lauren Pitchford was 2-for-3, as the Royals rapped out 11 hits.
San Marcos also defeated Orcutt Academy 7-0 in five innings.
Pitchford went 2 for 2 and drove in two runs, Cara Christian went 2-for-3, with a double and two RBIs, and Huerta-Leipner had two hits and two runs scored.0)
“I am extremely pleased with our performance in our first seven games as we have been able to get a good look at all our players and solidify our lineup as we head in to league play next week,” said San Marcos coach Jeff Swann. “The team has done a great job of correcting mistakes and improving in all phases of the game, but we realize there is much work ahead to compete consistently at a high level. I know our players are ready for that challenge and look forward to see how we respond.”
