San Marcos’ Alex Pitchford singled home the game-winning run in Tuesday’s 4-3 non-league victory over Pioneer Valley.
Pitchford broke a 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning. San Marcos pitcher Hailee Rios shut out the Panthers over the final three innings to earn the win.
Starting pitcher Aliyah Huerta-Leipner went 3-for-4 at the plate including a leadoff home run in the first inning. Sarah Douglas was 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Sienna Berlinger’s double knocked in another run.
“This was another tremendous team win with every starter contributing both offensively and defensively, and players coming off the bench stepping up and getting the job done,” reported Royals head coach Jeff Swann.
The result improves San Marcos to 4-1 on the season.
