A late rally came up just short for the Carpinteria softball team versus Lompoc. The Warriors were defeated by the Braves 6-4 on Thursday afternoon.
“Though we are young, we have to learn how to play with confidence on offense and make fundamental plays on defense,” said Carpinteria head coach Henry Gonzales.
Heading into the bottom of the sixth, the Warriors were down 5-0. However, they scored one run in that inning and three more in the seventh. Lompoc took a 6-1 lead going into the bottom of the seventh.
“This is big girl softball so we will learn how to play while sustaining the highest level of focus and concentration for an entire game,” added coach Gonzales. “When we learn that, we will be on our way.”
Carpinteria was led by a solid pitching performance from freshmen Amanda Blair, who pitched five solid innings with only two earned runs.
With the defeat, the Warriors fall to 0-2. Carpinteria matches up with Orcutt Academy on Saturday.
