Carpinteria picked up its first win of the season on Tuesday by holding off Dunn 6-5 in a non-league game.
After the Warriors allowed Dunn to tie the game at 5-5 with a four-run sixth inning, Diego Contreras scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh and retired the side on the mound in the bottom half of the inning to seal the victory.
Sal Delgado’s two doubles led the Warriors’ offense. Jorge Arroyo added two hits and Javier Jasso reached base three of four times from the leadoff spot.
“The Earwigs were competitive in every aspect and we feel lucky to escape with the win,” commented Carpinteria head coach Pat Cooney. “The first win of the year is a big deal. Success allows the players to build confidence in each other and themselves.”
The Warriors (1-2) host Cabrillo on Saturday in a double-header. It’s the home opener for the Warriors at Calderwood Field.
