Ventura’s Travis Hawkins was a two-way wrecking ball on Friday in a 3-0 shutout of Dos Pueblos that was the Channel League opener for both teams.
Hawkins produced a complete-game, five-hit shutout and was 2-for-2 at the plate, scoring a run and driving in another on one of his two doubles.
Dos Pueblos’ Michael Boelter kept the Chargers in the game by allowing two earned runs in four innings. Travis Craven pitched a scoreless fifth and sixth innings.
The Chargers had runners in scoring position in the third and fourth innings but left them stranded. Nick Noggle’s 2-for-3 day was DP’s only multi-hit effort. Quinn Peacock, Gio Macias and Luke Coffey added singles.
Dos Pueblos plays Harvard-Westlake on Saturday at Scott O’Leary Field at 11 a.m.
