Dos Pueblos got solid pitching from Eli Roberts and Austin Bull in a 2-1 baseball victory over Lompoc in the Lions Tournament on Saturday at Scott O’Leary Field.
Roberts went five innings to pick up the win and Bull threw two innings of hitless relief to earn the save.
Roberts drove in the game-winning run by executing a suicide squeeze in the fifth inning. Elijah Slikker, a transfer from Lompoc, dashed home on the play.
Slikker started at shortstop and “flashed some leather as well as had a base-hit bunt and scored the winning run versus his former team,” said DP coach Nick Katzenstein.
Luke Coffey had a pinch-hit RBI single to score DP’s first run in the fifth inning.
Roberts got into a little trouble in the sixth before turning it over to Bull.
“Austin was outstanding in doing his job,” said Katzenstein.
Bull pitched out of a jam in the sixth and struck out the first two hitters in the seventh before recording the final out on a diving catch by Chris Noggle on a blooper to left center.
