John Jensen belted a two-run homer to spark a five-run first inning, and Santa Barbara coasted to a 10-0 win against Orcutt Academy at Santa Maria’s Waller Park in the final round of the Central Coast Tournament Thursday.
The Dons improve to 5-0 going into their Channel League opener Friday against San Marcos at home. Orcutt Academy dropped to 1-5.
Daniel McKinney (1-0) pitched the first five innings and allowed four hits. Matt Murray struck out the side in the sixth. The Dons’ pitching has surrendered one run in five games.
Carter Soto continued to swing a hot back for the Dons. He went 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs. Christian Loza had two hits and drove in two runs.
“We open the Channel League season tomorrow, so it was important to stay focused today and not look ahead to San Marcos,” Santa Barbara assistant Mike Cooney said. “ For the most part, we did that with continued good pitching and defense.”
