Kevin Gowdy and Marcus Tmur combined on the third straight shutout for Santa Barbara High’s baseball team, a 4-0 decision over Cabrillo in Lompoc in the Central Coast Tournament.
Gowdy started and pitched five innings, allowing three hits, while striking out six and walking one. Tmur finished the game, giving up two hits and striking out two.
Conquistadore starter Phillip Martin matched Gowdy pitch for pitch until the 6th when he yielded a lead-off walk to Joe Arroyo, a sacrifice bunt by Bryce Morison, an infield single by Dalton Schroeder and a line-drive single to center by John Jensen to drive in the first two Santa Barbara runs.Trevor Moropoulos and Gowdy followed with a two-strike RBI hits to provide the final runs for the Dons.
“Two of the county’s best pitchers dominated the hitters this afternoon,” said Santa Barbara assistant coach Mike Cooney. “We were a little more fortunate than Cabrillo with clutch hitting in the 6th inning but it was a well-played game by both teams, unusual for this early in the year.”
The Dons (3-0) host Santa Maria on Tuesday.
