Carpinteria’s Sal Delgado turned in another impressive start on Tuesday, leading the Warriors to a 6-1 victory over Hueneme at the Santa Paula Classic.
Delgado pitched a complete-game one-hitter and struck out 12.
Teamed with battery-mate Jonah Spach, Delgado has been great in his past two starts. Including a 5-0 win over Villanova on Friday, the sophomore has struck out 23 batters in his past 13 innings without allowing an earned run.
Jose Carrillo scored the go-ahead run in the second inning on an RBI single by Jorge Arroyo. Javier Jasso, Spach and Ricky Medina all had doubles, an RBI and scored a run.
“The Warriors played all three phases of the game well today. Sal and Toby did a great job. In the last two games, the battery has surrendered just three hits while striking out 23,” reported Warriors head coach Pat Cooney. “The win provides a much needed lift for our group.”
Carpinteria (3-7) returns to the Santa Paula Classic on Wednesday for the third-straight day.
