A game-winning hit by Dustin Demeter led Dos Pueblos past Chaminade 8-7 in an Easton Tournament game on Tuesday afternoon at Westmont College.
“It’s a great win for us and it was nice to be on this side of the one-run ball game for a change,” said Chargers head coach Nick Katzenstein.”The guys have played really well and battled throughout this tournament.”
After trailing by three runs heading into the bottom of the seventh, Dos Pueblos staged an impressive rally to sneak by the Eagles. With the tying run at third and the winning run at second base, Demeter drove a 2-0 pitch into the right field fence for the walk-off victory.
“Westmont had a kids camp after our game which drew a large crowd for the later innings,” added coach Katzenstein.”It was a great feeling to have the community there watching and rooting us on. The environment was amazing.”
The Chargers were led by sophomore Darby Naughton, who threw five strong innings with only three hits and one earned run. Luke Coffey went 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Jesse Speier had two hits with an RBI and a run scored for Dos Pueblos.
With the victory, Dos Pueblos picked up its first win of the season and improves its record to 1-4 overall. The Chargers hit the road for their Channel League opener versus Ventura on Friday.
