The Cate baseball team obtained some momentum early and for a 5-4 victory over New Community Jewish in a non-league matchup on Tuesday.
Three of the Rams’ five runs came in the top of the first inning when Jake Dexter-Meldrum batted in three – Joel Revo, Dean Smith, and Djata Nyaawie. Revo slid into home again in the fifth inning off an RBI single from Smith. Revo scored his third run of the game in the 7th.
“Defensively, Cate was great when they had to be,” said coach David Soto. “Revo led the way on the mound for the Rams, going an efficient 4 innings, striking out 4 and walking only 1. Nyaawie came in after to shut it down and made some clutch pitches in the bottom of the 7th to get the Rams out of the jam and seal the win.”
The Rams will host Amino Leadership on Saturday.
