Carpinteria ran into a hot-hitting Santa Ynez team and was swept in a non-league doubleheader on Saturday, 11-5 and 10-1.
In the opener, Javier Jasso had two hits, a run and a RBI to lead the Warrior offense. Jose Carrillo capped the scoring when he drove in two runs with his two-out single in the fifth inning.
In the nightcap, Malcolm Gordon scored from first base on a two-out double by Diego Contreras for the Warriors’ only run. Nick Walker added his second hit of the day.
“Although our team is developing against a team that is well coached and already developed, we could really see improvement within the games,” Carpinteria coach Pat Cooney said.
Santa Ynez is the defending CIF champion.
“There was a fair amount of adversity throughout the day for the Warriors to deal with,” Cooney added. “The good news is that the players responded to the adversity in positive ways.
“We really do not like to lose. However, if today proves to be a positive steppingstone, we can accept the results and tip our caps to a really good team.”
