Tyson Miller is more than a terrific athlete at San Marcos. At Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon, the junior was described as smart, hard-working and considerate. It’s these traits and more that led the Royals to name Miller the school’s Phil Womble Award recipient for the 2014-15 school year.
Miller’s track & field coach Marylin Hantgin prepared a statement about Tyson.
“Tyson is an exceptional person,” she said. “He is a perfect example of what a team player is. Simply, he puts his teammates first. Tyson is the first to compliment, encourage, and defend his teammates. His peers look up to him. They trust him and want to be around him, and adults admire his kind heart and perseverance.”
Miller holds a 4.7 GPA in the classroom and is a member of the National Honors Society. He takes the time to volunteer coach at the Page Youth Center and has received a global leadership ambassador award.
In athletics, Miller is a two-sport varsity athlete. He’s a starter for the varsity boys basketball team and runs the 200 and 400 meters in track & field.
“I’d just like to thank the Athletic Round Table for having us,” Miller said. “I just want to say that it’s an honor to be a recipient of this amazing award and I certainly wouldn’t be here today if it weren’t for my teammates, all my coaches and of course my two wonderful parents and my wonderful sister who support me in anything I do.”
