Seniors Daniel Carlin and Nate Marsing extended their Westmont College basketball careers one more game with stellar performances on Thursday night.
Carlin scored a career-high 29 points, while Marsing contained The Master’s best player and the conference’s leading scorer, leading the Warriors to an 89-75 win in a first-round game of the GSAC Tournament on Thursday at Murchison Gym.
The Warriors advance to the semifinals on Saturday and will play at NAIA seventh-ranked Concordia.
Marsing and Carlin were playing their final games at Murchison Gym and they went out in grand style.
Carlin was a force in the paint, making 13 of 17 shots.
On Carlin, coach John Moore said: “For him to play as special of a game as he did was very rewarding for him and for the team.”
Marsing held the Mustangs’ Russell Byrd to 0 for 8 shooting from the 3-point line and no field goals in the second half. He was 2-13 from the floor and finished with 10 points.
“Nate was a defensive standout,” said Moore. “I think Nate and Daniel have been the ones who led us all season long in different ways, but they led us particularly well tonight.”
Five Warriors scored in double figures and the team shot 58.5 percent from the floor. Sean Harmon had 13 points, Cory Blau tallied 11 and Marsing and Jerry Karczewski each scored 10.
Chris Patureau scored 31 to lead Masters.
