It hasn’t taken long for the intensity of crosstown rivalries to take hold in the new sport of lacrosse.
In their first meeting as a CIF-sanctioned sport, Santa Barbara outlasted Dos Pueblos 7-6 in double overtime on Thursday. Elyjah Kloop scored four goals, including the game winner, to lift the Dons at DP.
Santa Barbara held the lead until the fourth quarter when DP went on a run and tied the score at 6-6.
Dons were up through out the whole game, but the Chargers made a great run in the 4th qtr to tie the game up 6-6 a piece.
“DP did a great job of tightening up their defense, but had no answer for sophomore midfielder Elyjah Klopp,” said Santa Barbara coach Mike Terry.
Sophomore Kees Feedyk scored 2 goals and junior Porter Ree added one goal, assisted by Klopp.
“Our Team Motto this year is ‘One More,’” Terry said. “And once you get into OT it is all about just one more play, and we made that play to end the game in our favor.
“It was something special to be apart of,” he added, “but (there’s) really no time to celebrate as we turnaround and play Laguna Blanca on Saturday, which will be a battle.”
