Santa Barbara High’s girls lacrosse team looked like a different squad on Tuesday against San Marcos, defeating the Royals 13-5. The Dons flipped the table on the Royals, who topped the Dons 12-5 in the teams’ season opener two weeks ago.
“SBHS had a completely different team tonight, applying every single thing they’ve learned up to this point and going hard every second of the game,” reported Dons coach Jeannette Biava. “SBHS played a true lacrosse game tonight.. It was inspiring.”
Santa Barbara enjoyed a strong start, building an 8-2 lead by halftime. Mia Barton and Bella Gniadek both led the Dons in scoring with four goals and both made an impact in the first half by scoring within 60 seconds of the opening draw. Defender Sabrina Loza and attacker Tess Kriegman added goals in the first half.
“First half was the best girls lacrosse Santa Barbara High School has ever played,” commented Biava.
The second half began with a 10-minute stalemate in which neither team scored. Bella Fredericks broke the silence with two successive goals.
San Marcos’ Ali Bliss totaled four goals for the Royals, two coming in each half. Summer Bosse also scored for San Marcos.
Santa Barbara can keep it going on Thursday when the Dons host Dos Pueblos at 7 p.m.
San Marcos travels to Cate next Tuesday for its next match.
