Cate defeated Santa Barbara by a score of 14-6 during a girls lacrosse matchup on Thursday evening at Peabody Stadium.
“In my experience, more times then not, which ever team won the most draw controls in a game came out on top. And for this game, Cate won 18 out of the 22 draw controls,” said Santa Barbara head coach Jeannette Biava.
The Dons were led by goalkeeper Rachyl Beksa, who recorded 11 saves. Sophie DiFilipo scored a goal to go along with five ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Santa Barbara lost a key player early in the first half when Kate Mascari was hit in the head with the ball.
Going into the half, the Rams carried a 6-4 advantage over the Dons.
“Cate’s goalie did a tremendous job saving a majority of SBHS’s shots, she was agile, aggressive and had good stick skills,” added coach Biava.
With excellent ball skills and effective passing through the midfield, Cate kept 80 percent of possession throughout the match. This led to the Rams taking many shots against a fatigued Dons defense.
For the record, the Cate goalie is named Jessica Liou. Cate’s midfielders, responsible for the draw controls were Sam Hill, Maddie Becker, and Brie Walker.
