Kelsie Bryant has had a rewarding high school experience at Carpinteria High.
The highly decorated Bryant added another honor to the trophy case in her family home on Monday as she was named Carpinteria’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year at the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon. Last year, she was presented with the Phil Womble Ethics in Sports Award.
A four-year standout in tennis and soccer, Bryant excels in the classroom, too. She carries a 4.42 GPA, with a class load that includes Advanced Placement calculus, literature and composition, biology, music appreciation and Spanish. She has been recognized as an AP Scholar.
In addition to her heavy class schedule, she is a member of the school’s marching band.
On the tennis court, she was part of two CIF championship teams at Carpinteria, won four league singles titles, named team MVP four times, twice named the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table high school girls tennis player of the year and the Santa Barbara County player of the year. She reached the round of 16 at this season’s CIF Individual Championships.
She’s been dominant at the junior level of the Southern California Tennis Association, posting a record of 235-6.
In soccer, she was named the Frontier League Offensive MVP, and she’s been team MVP for the past two seasons. She was team captain for the tennis and soccer teams.
Bryant’s volunteer work includes the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital Volunteer Group and the iCan Shine Bike Camp, where she works with individuals with disabilities.
The daughter of Laurie and Charles Bryant, Kelsie has committed to play tennis at UC Davis. She plans to major in neurobiology, physiology and behavior.
