The Laguna Blanca boys volleyball team was defeated in five sets by Viewpoint in the Owls season opener Tuesday. The score were 25-27, 25-16, 14-25, 25-20, 15-13.
“We lost a close one tonight,” said Laguna Blanca head coach Dillan Bennett. “The guys played very well in a very feisty match with Viewpoint.”
Pierce O’Donnell was a highlight show on defense for the Owls with 48 digs. Scott Johnston had seven kills, 18 digs, and three aces, while Ethan Katnic added 10 kills for the Owls.
“Viewpoint has very athletic players and played very well,” added coach Bennett. “Overall, I think our new guys learned very quickly what it’s like to play high level competition right out of the gates.”
Coach Bennett also gave high praise to setter Spenser Wyatt, who played a solid match after sitting out all of last season with a torn labrum.
The Owls hit the road to match up with Besant Hill next Wednesday.
