Carpinteria rallied for wins in the first two sets and defeated Cate in a Tri-Valley League boys volleyball match on Thursday.
It was the first league match ever competed between the two schools from Carpinteria.
The Warriors were down 23-20 in the first set and roared back to win 25-23. They went on another late surge in the second set to break a 19-19 tie and won 25-19. Cate pulled out a 25-23 win in the third set before the Warriors put the Ramss away in the fourth, 25-14.
Victor Saldana led the Warriors with 9 kills, Mason Picerni had 8 kills and 5 blocks, Jose Angeles dished out 21 assists.
The Warriors capitalized on Cate mistakes.
“We need to eliminate our errors,” Cate coach Greg Novak said. “We’re creating errors for points for the other team.”
Oliver Welch had a big match for the Rams, blasting 22 kills. “He’s a very athletic individual who gets up high and hits hard,” said Novak.
