Santa Barbara High pulled out a 38-36 win in the third set to sweep Oxnard in its boys volleyball season opener on Thursday.
Jasper Rhodes had 14 kills and Kyle Skinner added seven for the Dons, who played without returning first-team all-league player Hayden Millington. He had just returned from a college visit to New York University.
Millington will be back in the lineup tonight when the Dons take on CIF Division 1 fourth-ranked Mira Costa at home.
Santa Barbara won the third set despite making 21 unforced errors.
“It was a good match us but it was not too pretty,” said Dons coach Chad Arneson, who used several players in the match.
Setter Cord Pereira had 38 assists for the Dons.
