The dominant net play of power duo Elliot Brainerd and Eli Wopat facilitated a gratifying 25-17, 25-21, 25-16 sweep for the Dos Pueblos boys volleyball in a Channel League contest over Buena on Tuesday. The win marks the first league victory for the Chargers this season.
Eli Wopat and Elliot Brainerd carried the load for Dos Pueblos, finishing with a collective 26 kills at 13 apiece.
“Elliot was super quick off the ground tonight, created a ton of opportunities for himself like a good middle should,” said coach Ehren Hug. “He is such a workhorse he deserved it tonight. He also we really great passing tonight, super aggressive and consistent.”
Hug also spoke about Wopat’s contributions saying, “Eli was simply amazing tonight. The junior opposite was flying high and swinging hard. His jump serve was on tonight too, tallying 2 aces and playing scrappy defense in the back row.”
The Chargers improve to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in league. They are set to face San Marcos in a much-anticipated crosstown rivalry affair on Thursday.
