John Harris had 24 kills and Brolin Parris handed out 41 assists in Bishop Diego’s 19-25, 25-15, 25-21, 16-25, 15-10 victory over Cate on Tuesday in a Tri-Valley League match.

Harris added 10 digs and three aces to his totals.

“Harris keeps getting better and better on the offensive end. He definitely didn’t play like a freshman tonight.”

Luca Jordano delivered another double-double for the Cardinals with 15 kills and 16 digs plus three aces. Parrish totaled 41 assists and 10 digs. Donnelly credited Sean Tetherow with providing a defensive boost in the fourth and fifth sets.

“This was a good win for us,” Donnelly said. “We had to battle to get it done and it was nice to see us respond well when pushed out of our comfort zone.”

Bishop Diego (6-3, 5-1 TVL) is off for two weeks before facing rival Carpinteria on April 14. Cate is 2-3 overall and in league.

Morgan Pierce led Cate’s attack with 21 kills and nine aces. Oliver Welch added 16 kills.

“Overall, it was our best match of the season. It’s coming together for us,” Cate coach Greg Novak said.

Novak said ball control made the difference in the match. “It comes down to ball control issues when it counts. Bishop did a good job chasing down balls and making plays. We had trouble converting free balls and making plays.”
