Carpinteria swept the doubles side of Monday’s rivalry match with Bishop Diego on its way to a 12-6 victory.
The Warriors won all nine doubles sets and rallied from behind to win three. Francis Aguilera and Juan Hernandez were responsible for two of the gutsy come-from-behind wins. Bryan Taira and Jeremy Saito won 6-0, 6-1, 6-0.
“Our boys show a lot of fight and just do not give up even if trailing,” commented Carpinteria head coach Charles Bryant. “They just did a great job keeping their heads up and playing the next point versus worrying about what just happened.”
Bishop Diego’s Spencer Ekola was the day’s premier singles player winning 6-0, 6-0, 6-0.
“It was another rough day for Bishop’s young and inexperienced doubles teams,” reported Cardinals head coach Debbie Ekola. “Consistency, movement and strategy will be the focus for our doubles players before we play Villanova this Thursday.”
The Warriors improve to 5-2, 1-0.
