No. 2 singles player Jonathan Cleek and the No. 2 doubles team of Bryan Taira and Jeremy Saito each swept all three sets to facilitate a gratifying victory for the Carpinteria boys tennis team in a 12-6 decision over Channel Islands on Thursday.
“He just gets better as the match goes on,” said coach Charles Bryant. “He played great his last set mixing up powerful groundstrokes along with tough serving and volleying.”
Raymond Ceullar and Sammy Guiterrez chipped in with a set apiece on the day. The No. 3 power duo of Sam Truax and Jacob Ascencio racked in two set wins before being subbed out.
“We have been working on getting to the net more in practices lately and the boys started to feel a bit more comfortable doing it in an actual match right around the third round,” said Bryant. “So it is still a work in progress but hopefully it will help in the long run.”
The Warriors improve to 3-2 with the victory.
