San Marcos was too much for Laguna Blanca’s boys tennis team on Friday in a 13-5 decision in Hope Ranch.
Laguna Blanca seniors Martin Barnick and Mitchell Gravelle led the Owls with a doubles sweep of 6-4, 7-5, 6-2. It was the first time the duo had been paired before in a match.
“By the third set they were already starting to move like a team, covering each other instinctively and communicating in-between points,” reported Laguna Blanca head coach Trevor Thorpe. “I was also happy with the way senior Connor Elmore and freshman Jason Barnick battled at the #3 spot, taking a win and then playing tough against their next two opponents.”
Both teams were missing top players. Reigning Channel League singles champion Kento Perera was not in the lineup for the Royals while the Owls have two players on the school’s soccer team that was still playing deep in the playoffs as of Friday.
