Dos Pueblos’ boys tennis team has started the week with two victories in as many days, including a 13-5 victory over Ventura on Tuesday in DP’s Channel League opener.
The Chargers first earned a non-league victory over Oaks Christian on Monday at North Ranch Country Club . The two teams tied 9-9 in sets but Dos Pueblos held a 82-68 advantage in games.
Oaks Christian won four close sets to finish the match with nine wins. Those hard-fought losses boosted Dos Pueblos’ total game count.
Oaks Christian’s Gibson Parker topped Dos Pueblos’ Patrick Corpuz 7-6 in the opening round. Miles Baldwin then defeated a weary Parker in the second round on his way to a three-set sweep. Corpuz finished up his day with two victories in the last two rounds.
In doubles, the teams of Bryce Ambrose/Mason Dochterman and Quinn Hensley/Vincent Villano took two sets each.
“It was indeed a close match, where each player dug deep and grinded out every point,” said Chargers head coach Liz Frech.
Against Ventura, Dos Pueblos swept all nine doubles sets led by the duo of Quinn Hensley and Vincent Villano.
The Chargers (3-2, 1-0) have Santa Barbara next on Thursday in an important league match.
