Dos Pueblos senior Cameron Cox qualified for his first CIF State Meet on Friday by reaching Saturday’s semifinals in the 132-pound division at the Masters Meet in Ontario.
Cox defeated Temecula Valley’s Christian Mateos in the quarterfinals by an 11-7 decision. He will face San Marino High School’s Julian Flores in the semis. All four semifinalists are guaranteed spots at the State Meet.
Jeff Uyesaka and Jonathan Coronado were knocked out on Friday. The two seniors were both Channel League champions this year.
“They are both great kids and it has been my privilege to coach them. I couldn’t be more proud of their effort and leadership this year,” said Chargers head coach Anthony Califano.
Cox will be competing next week in Bakersfield at the State Meet.
