Cuesta built a 43-18 halftime lead on Wednesday night and went on to defeat SBCC 64-33 in a WSC North women’s basketball game in San Luis Obispo.
Kaylee Williams topped the 18th-ranked Cougars (22-6, 8-2) with 18 points and eight rebounds. Cuesta has won eight of its last nine games to move into second place, a half-game behind No. 8 Ventura (8-1).
Destiny Renteria came off the Vaquero bench to score a season-high 12 points on 4-10 shooting from 3-point range. Alyssa Cosio had eight rebounds for the Vaqueros, who had their four-game win streak snapped and fell to 9-15 and 4-5.
Cuesta outshot the visitors 43.4 to 21.6 percent. SBCC only made 11 of 51 shots and committed 33 turnovers while the Cougars had 18.
“We played hard, we just couldn’t shoot the ball,” said coach Sandrine Krul. “You have to be mentally prepared to play on Wednesday night on the road and we weren’t.”
SBCC will host Ventura on Saturday at 7 p.m.
