Rachelle Visser won the 200 and 500 freestyle on Friday, leading SBCC to a second-place finish in the first WSC women’s swim meet at L.A. Valley College.
Visser clocked 5:28.04 to win the 500 free by more than 25 seconds and she swam 5:28.04 in the 500 free. Alaina Chela won the 100 butterfly in 1:04.11 and took second in the 200 IM. Autumn Lovett was first in the 100 back in 1:08.80 and third in the 200 IM.
The five-school meet used dual-team scoring and Bakersfield went 4-0, followed by SBCC (3-1), Citrus (2-2), L.A. Valley (1-3) and Santa Monica (0-4). The Vaqueros narrowly lost to the Renegades by six points (99-93) and won their other three matches by 48, 52 and 78 points.
Madelyn Brooks took third in the 50 and 100 free while Elise Hazel was second in the 1000 free and Rocio Fesembeck was fifth in the 100 free. Katerina Cummins was second in the 100 back.
Fesembeck led off the 200 free relay that placed second in 1:50.34. She was followed by Hazel, Cummins and Visser, who swam a 24.91 anchor leg. The 200 medley relay was victorious, led by Chela’s 28.41 split in the butterfly.
“We had a high level of intensity today and it’s great to see the girls applying what we are practicing in each of their events,” said assistant coach Sierra Peltcher.
SBCC returns to action on Saturday, March 14 in WSC No. 2, hosted by Hancock at the Paul Nelson Swim Center in Santa Maria.
