SBWPC’s 16U boys win gold

The 16U Boys with gold medals draped around their necks in Irvine.

The Santa Barbara Water Polo Club’s boys 16U “A” team captured the gold at the prestigious Kap7 International Tournament held in Irvine, California this past weekend.

The team battled some of the best teams in the country including Davis, South Coast, SHAQ and SET to get to the championship finals.

In the Championship game, it was a true team effort with everyone on the team playing an important role in a great come from behind victory to beat Northern California powerhouse Lamorinda 13-12.

Members of the gold medal winning team included Jake Ehrhardt, Sawyer Rhodes, Spencer Wood, Miles Cole, Jessie Morrison, Chris Gaffney, Adam Fuller, Robert Rose, Ryan McCombs, Taylor Gustason, Justyn Barrios and Peyton Collins.

The team was coached by Kevin Kuga, Ian Wood and Patrick Kuga.

Overall, the SBAC boys had a total of 8 teams competing in various age groups from 12U to 19U. 12U A team finished 5th in Platinum Division, 12U B team finished 15th in Silver Division, 14U A team 8th in Platinum Division, 14U B team 4th in Gold Division, 16U A Team 1st in Platinum Division, 16U B team 3rd in Gold Division, 16U C team 10th in Gold Division. 19U 21st in Platinum
