Three San Marcos pitchers combined on a no-hitter in the baseball season opener Saturday, as the Royals blanked Hueneme 5-0 at Joe Mueller Field.
Senior lefty Sean Nakano-West got the start, throwing four innings and recording five strikeouts. Junior right-hander Nolan Cope pitched a scoreless fifth and sophomore lefty Ian Churchill closed the door with five strikeouts in the final two innings.
Blake Katsev led the Royals in hitting going 2-for-2 with 2 RBI, including a powerful opposite-field double into the storm-driven wind. Kyle Gonzalez added two hits and scored twice and Nakano-West had a hit, scored two runs and stole four bases.
The Royals will be playing at Nordhoff Tuesday and at Oxnard Thursday as part of the Southern California Invitational Tournament.
