Taylor McCluskey had 12 digs and To’o To’o collected 10 kills and eight digs on Friday night, leading SBCC to a 3-1 men’s volleyball win over L.A. Pierce in Woodland Hills. The scores were 20-25, 27-25, 25-20, 25-20.
“We didn’t start with good energy and we weren’t communicating in the first set,” said To’o, a sophomore middle blocker from San Lorenzo. “Then we started playing better defense.”
The Vaqueros improved to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in the WSC. Pierce fell to 3-5 and 0-2.
Sean Reynaert had eight kills and eight blocks and Jeremy Berch added six kills and nine blocks. Reynaert hit a sizzling .545, To’o .533 and Berch .400.
Keaton Arutian had 24 assists and Kyle Smiley notched 21 assists and two aces. Casey Alper had 21 digs.
“We weren’t serving tough enough early and we let them get in system,” said coach Matt Jones. “In the second and third sets, our serving improved when we started using float serves. That allowed our offense to get going.”
After a bye on Wednesday, the Vaqueros will host L.A. Trade Tech on Friday at 6 p.m.
