Westmont’s defense shut down one of the GSAC’s leading scorers, sparking the Warriors to a 78-63 win over William Jessup on Saturday night at Murchison Gym.
“Defense ruled the night,” said coach John Moore, “We did a really good job against Chris Murry who scored nine three pointers in their last game against The Master’s. He did not make one tonight and that is highly attributed to our defense.”
Murphy was held to 12 points, 10 of which came from the free-throw line.
The Warriors (17-8, 9-3 GSAC) held William Jessup to a 36.1 overall field goal percentage.
“Nate Marsing, Hayden Anderson and Britton Williams all did a really nice job executing the game plan tonight. Our defense was exactly what we needed it to be,” said Moore.
Cory Blau led the offense with 20 points, which included four 3-pointers on five attempts.
Sean Harman provided an offensive boost, making six of eight shots and scoring 14 points. Anderson scored 12 points on 5-for-5 shooting, 2-of-3 from 3-point range. He also had five rebounds and two assiss.
Westmont travels to Arizona Christian (21-6, 10-3) on Thursday and plays at San Diego Christian on Saturday.
